Monsoon 2 Away Lost 2-7

Team: Phil & Tricia (0-3) Steve D & Penny (1-2) Tim & Jo (1-2)

Trish & Phil managed to take all 3 rubbers to 3 but just losing out each time by a few points. They put up a fantastic fight in all 3 it was a shame it went in the favour of the home team, well battled.

Penny & Steve had a shaky start losing the first game of the first rubber to 10 then narrowly losing in the second game 17-14 after being 14-10 up. They then managed to take the second rubber against the third pair. We then managed to take the  1st pair to 3 but lost in the 3rd to11.

Jo & Tim played well taking the final rubber after Tim said he was having a mare after the second rubber. His words not mine.

Well a disappointing result after going there with the positive thought of taking a win. Never the less our team put up a fantastic fight winning 2 rubbers and 8 games overall which is a damn sight better than we started the start of the season last year not winning 1 single game a and most of us even struggling to get into double figures.

A good team spirit was had by all players. Thank you to Jo for stepping in for Louise who was away on her hols.

Next match is Away again this time against Jubilee 1 where we were defeated 9-0 last season so we will improve on our score from then.

Jubilee 1 Away Lost 0-9

Team: Phil & Liz (0-3) Steve D & Penny (0-3) Tim & Joan (0-3)

Esporta 1 Home Won  7-2

Team: Steve D & Penny (3-0) Tim & Louise (2-1) Steve B & Liz (2-1)

Hoorah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Match started in fine form with Penny and Steve going on as first pair as this was the only pairing to remain the same since we started the season. The Esporta's first lady must of been 6 foot and we thought it was going to be a tough night. Steve was smashing well at the lady and she was not happy.
We won convincingly to 5 and 9. One nil up and off to a dream start.

Tim and Louise went on having never played together before and got into a rhythm but just losing out on the first game to 10. they managed to get into a good stride taking the second pair to 3. With some aggressive smashing from both Louise and Tim they secured the rubber by winning to 2. Two nil up already.

Steve and Liz went on court and it was clear that the third pair was really there 1st but as they were late I guess they switched pairs around. S+L battled through a tough first game being beaten to 9. They came out fighting to take the rubber to 3 but were beaten after some very good play from the opposition. 2-1 up after 3 rubbers.

As S+L went to 3 in their first rubber the decision was taken by the captain to play out of order as time was limited only having 2 courts with mixed 3 playing a match also.

Steve and Penny went on against the second pair and comfortably won the 2 games in record time. Steve was Smashing so well and moving around like lightening Penny was just left to kill off anything loose at the net and her drop shots were quality (for a change).

Tim and Louise played the first pair and true to form they won the 2 games to 7 in both. A comfortable rubber.

Steve and Liz played their seconds and easily won as Liz was serving perfectly and Steve smashed everything down the lines to win by 7 and then 1,giving us a much deserved victory, taking the pressure off on the remaining rubbers.

The rest of the match went well with Steve and Penny going to 3 against there 3dr pair (really their 1st) Playing quality badminton and remaining solid. We battled and fought to win the 3rd to 12. 3 out of 3 for the first time as a pair.

The spirit of the match was good with some home support from the bench as Roy, Joan and Harry cheered us on. Throughout the night we kept creeping down to see mixed 3 in action who also had a good victory, winning 5-4, way after 10pm as a lot of their games went to 3.

A big thanks goes out to Steve Best and for Liz Stepping in at short notice for Phil and Trish. A cracking result!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jubilee 2 Home Lost 2-7

Team: Tim & Louise (0-3), Phil & Tricia (1-2), Steve D & Penny (1-2)

As usual the Jubilee team's time keeping left a lot to be desired with only one pair turning up on time, the second pair not being available until 7:40 and the last pair around 8:15.

Tim and Louise went on as first pair and lost in a respectable 15-8, 15-11 against a good pair. Once their second pair turned up Phil and Tricia went on and lost the first game 15-11 but pulled back the second in a very close 17-14 and went on to win comfortably in the third to 15-8. Steve and Penny we're also on court against Jubilee's first pair and quickly lost the first game but once warmed up managed to take the next 2 games 15-11, 15-12 to make it 2-1 in rubbers. Things were looking good especially as their third pair still hadn't turned up.

The next set of rubbers unfortunately all went jubilee's way although T&L and S&P managed to take their rubbers to 3 games against Jubilees weaker pair. The situation was not helped by the fact that their last pair turned up and these were clearly their first pair really.

What can I say, we lost the last 3 rubbers as well but at least there were some glimmers of hope along the way.

Monsoon 1 Home Lost 0-9

Team: Tim & Louise (0-3), Steve D & Penny (0-3), Phil & Tricia (0-3)

Playing Monsoon 1 was always going to be a challenge and so it proved. The only positive point of the evening is that we managed to take one rubber to 3 games before losing it 12-15 in the last game and in the process Penny injuring herself. Everyone fought very hard, no one can accuse us of not trying but may in the end we just didn't have the skills to match Monsoon.

Jubilee 1 Home Lost
Monsoon 2 Home Lost 4-5

Team: Tim & Joan (1-2), Steve B & Jo (2-1), Steve D & Penny (1-2)

Trica was unavailable due to her bad ankle and Phil was over in Sweden with work, so many thanks to Steve B & Jo for stepping in.

I'll keep it short and sweet, we all tried very hard but couldn't quite match Monsoon except possibly Steve B & Jo who managed to win two rubbers. I'm sure the team manager will take note of this excellent performance.

Jubilee 2 Away Lost 0-9

Team: Matt & Penny (0-3), Phil & Louise (0-3), Tim & Joan (0-3)

The score did not reflect on how we had played.

Well Jubilee were up to their old tricks in turning up late.

This seems to happen every time we play Jubilee whether it be a home or an away match.

We were all warmed up and ready to play and still no Jubilee men were available, with the time now at 7.20 the opponents arrived.

Our team discussed the issue among themselves before the decision was made (after looking at the rules) to claim the first 2 rubbers as per the handbook.

After Louise had told them what we were doing, a heated discussion broke out between several of us and we were told by Jubilee we could only claim 1 rubber as the handbook states that the courts available are 1 or 2? How convenient

By this time it was gone 7.30 and Matt had a discussion with one of them about how to tell the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when the big hand is at the bottom of the hour it is 30 mins past ;-).

Without going into anymore detail, it was decided just to get on with playing the game which is why we were all there.

 Onto the badminton.

Steve D was unable to make the match as he was on call out from work so Matt kindly stepped in to help out.

No pressure then playing as first pair.

Penny + Matt had a long night and after taking 2 of the rubbers to 3 we lost both the rubbers after fighting to win the 2nd game of the second rubber 17-16.

Joan very kindly stepped in for Trish D as she is still injured with her foot and played for a second time with Tim.

Good games were had by them and just losing out in the last rubber after taking them to 3.

 Phil + Louise

Phil had a new partner for this match as it was decided this would be the strongest pairing for the team. Again the score did not reflect on how they played, going to 3 in one of the rubbers.

A disappointing result overall but at least we were not beaten to a pulp and we put up  BRAVE FIGHT.

A big thank you to Matt and Joan for standing in for us.
