3 CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT – GRAHAM CHILVERS
Firstly I would just like to make a mention of the loss of probably the best club person we have ever had, Bob. He is sadly missed for a host of reasons not least his friendship and sense of humour. We ALL still miss him.
On to some happier items. I would like to say a big thank you to all the committee members for their efforts over the last year, and it would be remiss of me not to thank them personally.
Firstly thanks to Julie for all of her efforts as Secretary and keeping us organised with the Team packs and all of the e-mails keeping us informed about League positions.
Secondly to Phil in his fifth year as Match Secretary, another very well organised season, apart from a couple of nights when Mens 2 and 3 were playing on the same night.
I would also like to thank Louise, Penny and Steve D for all of their work in their respective positions.
And lastly to Joan for her work as Treasurer, it’s not an easy job but every club needs somebody to undertake the task.
Thanks also go to the Team Captains, well done to you all.
And finally thanks very much to all members for their efforts over the year, without you there would not be a club.
Well another season has come to an end. I hope that most of you had an enjoyable, if hard, season.
We have once again had some impressive successes. I will start with the yo-yo team – Mixed 1 – they have once again fought through a hard season and have again been promoted to Premier Division as CHAMPIONS. TROPHY??
Unfortunately the other Mixed teams found the season very hard, after both being promoted last year, and both are going back down again and it may be that we will only have 2 Mixed teams next season due to a shortage of Ladies.
Our Ladies have also had a good season and have been placed second in their league, we also had a first for the last match of the season as we were hoping for a Barkers win - against WBC, which they did 6 - 0. We normally NEVER support Barkers!!
We have now another FIRST to announce – Mens 1 have been promoted to Premier for the first time, unfortunately in second place, but I believe that they should really have won the division but Monsoon 3, who cannot be promoted, have obviously set out to win the cup as their Mens 2 team have lost all of their matches in Premier this season so I wonder if they have always played the strongest team up in Premier.
For the second year running Mens 2 have just missed out on promotion by coming third in the division and again missing promotion on rubbers again, perhaps next year eh John?
Mens 3 have had a very mixed year with a whole host of players playing and have finished mid-table, although it looks likely that this team may disappear next season
But I would like to say a thank you to everybody in the club for all of their efforts, especially those people who have turned out in matches to enable us to always put a team out, and here’s to next season.
4 TREASURER’S REPORT – JOAN FULLER
Last years annual report is accepted: Proposed: John Todd Seconded: Matt Butler
Thanks to Leigh and Louise for sponsoring shirts. Shuttles and rent go up each year, and probably will again next season. Next season we expect fewer members and could cut costs by playing matches on Wednesdays where possible, and cutting down the hours to 8-10, and only 2 courts. Louise will ask again about sponsorship Suggestions on fund raising welcome.
Fees to go up annual sub £100 All matches to be on Wednesdays. Fridays will be from 4 to 2 courts Proposed: Phil Guest Seconded: Penny Bell Voted for unanimous
Summer club Wednesday’s only Empty book in cupboard for visitors Teams – 1 Ladies, 2 Mixed, and 2 Mens Summer club covers itself. The number of teams/members affects the numbers.
5. TEAM CAPTAIN’S REPORTS
Ladies (Captain – Louise Taylor) Had a good season, tough but good, everyone happy. Tried to spread it out and put out the strongest team when needed, Debbie was the star player who put in 110% in every game she played.
Mens 1 (Captain – Steve D) – not present We did all right 9 wins 2 defeats very close
Mens 2 (Captain – John Todd) Actually 13 players for a team of 6. Interesting season lost first matches then all started playing better, all went well until chairman went on holiday. Left ourselves with too much to do. Too many 5-4s won 9 out of 12. Captains tip - never play with a left hander - because they break your racket! Well played everybody
Mens 3 (Captain – Paul Harris) Lost Paul early in the season played 14 won 7 lost 7. Worse set of number of players than mens 2
Mixed 1 (Captain – Penny Bell) Won, going back up Down last season, up this, defeated only by one - Jubilee 4. More consistent team due to not many injuries and more regular partners, big thanks to Steve and Jo who lost very few rubbers. Thanks for Steve for writing match reports. Hats off to all
Mixed 2 (Captain – Matt Will all the injuries we had, not a great season, all tried hard hopefully more positive next season thanks to all
Mixed 3 (Captain - Fiona) not present
12 played won 1 lost 11 will go back down to division 4. Very hard season, were promoted by default.
