3          Chairperson’s report – Graham Chilvers

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all the committee members for their efforts over the last year, and it would be remiss of me not to thank them personally. Firstly thanks to Julie for all of her efforts as Secretary and keeping us organised with the Team packs and all of the e-mails keeping us informed about League positions.  Secondly to Phil in his second year as Match Secretary, another very well organised season.  Finally to Seb for his first year as Treasurer, it’s not an easy job but every club needs somebody to undertake the task.  Thanks also go to the Team Captains, well done to you all in what, at times, was a very difficult season.  And finally thanks very much to all members for their efforts over the year, without you there would not be a club.

Well another season has come to an end.  I hope that most of you had an enjoyable, if hard, season.  The season could not possibly match up to the previous year, and unfortunately it didn’t.  However - a first for the club with Mixed 1 being placed 3rd in Division 1.  This was a tremendous effort by the whole team, and to all the others who helped out at different times during the season.  It seems likely that they will get promoted to the Premier Division for next season – Monsoon 3 won the division but cannot get promoted.  Another first for Balsall Common Badminton Club and good luck for next year.  Also Mixed 2 came second in Division 2 which considering that they got promoted last year as well, was a splendid achievement.

We also had some success in that 4 of our members captured the CET Cup, namely the “pajamas” - Penny, Jo, Matt and Steve Best.  Well done to you all.

But I would just like to say a thank you to everybody in the club for all of their efforts, and here’s to next season.

4          Treasurer’s report – Seb Drury

50 tubes of shuttles were not taken into account, which have just been purchased having been tipped off that the price of shuttles is about to go up by 25%.  Approximately 100 tubes are used per year.

Treasurer requested acceptance of the report.

             Proposed:         Joan Fuller

            Seconded:        Matt Butler

Hall rental will be increased in November.  This raised the issue of reducing the number of courts on non-busy nights when there are no matches.  Seb to contact Megan Freestone.                                                   Action: SD

       It was proposed that:

      (a)        The annual fee be raised by £10 with no change to match fees

      (b)        The annual fee be raised by £5 and match fees raised to £5

      Proposal (a) – 9 votes

      Proposal (b) – 6 votes

Therefore the annual fee will now be £85, and £95 for new members.

5.         Team Captain’s reports

Coventry Ladies  (Captain - Debbie Griffiths)

Won 2 matches.  Thanks to all who played, we didn’t finish bottom!

Mens 1 (Captain - Roy Brighton)

Not much detail, we failed miserably, got relegated, had a hard fought year.  Won 4 lost 8.  Thanks to those who filled in, it wasn’t a settled team; we had a few extras – thanks to Steve Best.  We won more on Phil’s return.

Mens 2 (Captain – Bob Henrick)

Came third, only 10 matches – won 5, lost 5.  Had a settled team with a couple of injuries, was quite a good season, we are going up next year.  Thanks to all who played.

Mixed 1 (Penny Bell - Captain)

Finished with 8 wins and 4 losses, came third in the division, going up into the Premier Division.  This makes history in the club with it being the first time.   We knew it was going to be hard, and it was!

Mixed 2 (Harry Turnbull – Captain)

Having been promoted, had a mixed season, got promoted again.  Thanks to all who played – maybe Division 1!!

Mixed 3 (John Todd – Captain)

A changed season.  Better team.  Started the season with three wins, went amiss after that, then came good again – won 6 lost 8 and 2 penalty points due to not being able to get a team out.
