5. TEAM CAPTAIN’S REPORTS Ladies (Captain – Louise Taylor) Had good season everyone played very well, won division, Won the cup. It was close with Warwick Bears who will probably also go up.
Mens 1 (Captain – Steve Davoile) – verbal report from players Unfortunately one point below staying in the division, good experience. Beat Monsoon 1 which was a high, battle of Jubilee!
Mens 2 (Captain – John Todd) Used 16 different players, JT was the only one who played them all. Special thanks to Leigh for going sick which helped out, well played everyone. Won the division with 2 games to spare. Won the cup
Mixed 1 (Captain – Jo Pratt) Played 12 lost 12. Thanks to all who played lot of games lost 5-4. Thanks to Penny for taking over captaincy. Thanks to both Matt’s, Lou, Debbie and John very interesting year with position turning up late, snow and injuries.
Mixed 2 (Captain – Debbie Johnson) We had a reasonable season considering we struggled to get a regular third man for matches. Louise ended up playing with at least 6 different partners during the season! At one point it looked like we could win the division (or come 2nd) but a couple of games we probably should have won didn't go our way. We finished a respectable third, missing out on 2nd place by 9 rubbers, having won the same number of games as AT7. The winning team CSR only won one more match than us.

9 MOTIONS
Motion 1 Only members who have paid their subs for the new season can be registered to play for the club and therefore be eligible to play in matches. Proposed: D Griffiths Seconded: L Taylor For: 14 Against: 0 Abstentions:
It was AGREED that membership fees must be paid on or before 1 September, if you have problems paying, speak to treasurer.
Motion 2 The 10 week transfer rule is scrapped. Anyone should be able to transfer between clubs straight away if they haven't played any matches. Proposed: D Johnston
Proposed amendment to playing Rule 6 has already been put forward to Coventry Committee by Graham Chilvers
PROPOSALS BEING PUT TO COVENTRY AGM FOR DISCUSSION
Proposed amendment to Playing Rule 6 – Change of Club Existing Rule Change of Club The Previous year’s registration shall be deemed to be continuous. Players wishing to change clubs must complete CBA Form M1, following which they will be eligible to play in the League from the date indicated below – Received by CBA Secretary before 24 August – eligible start of season Received after 24 August – eligible 10 weeks after form received by CBA Secretary
Proposal 1 The first proposed change is to change the wording in the above rule to remove “August 24” and be replaced by “at or before the Fixtures Meeting” in first occurrence and “after the Fixtures Meeting” on second occurrence.
Proposal 2 Secondly to change the wording “10 weeks” to “6 weeks”.
Reason for Changes These minor changes would still allow all clubs to notify any player changes to the League Secretary before the season starts, but will allow clubs and individuals extra time over the off-season when people may still be making decisions as to where they are going to play for the coming season. It also fits with the current schedule of dates more easily. The change from 10 weeks to 6 weeks would still make sure that players are not changing clubs over and over again during a season but is not quite as harsh as the current 10 week rule.
Proposal by Graham Chilvers Chairman – Coventry League Balsall Common Badminton Club 20/04/10
For: 14 Against: 0 Abstentions: 0
Proposal to introduce Rally Points Scoring to all remaining Divisions The proposal is to align all divisions that are currently using the old scoring system, games to 15, to the same scoring system as in the Premier Divisions in the Coventry League. This being the current scoring system being used and approved by Badminton England, Rally Point Scoring. Some of the benefits of introducing this scoring are –
1 All teams will be playing the same scoring system, currently there are a number of clubs who are playing two different scoring systems 2 This scoring system is the only one now used in most tournaments and all County matches 3 There will be a reduction in the number of shuttles used due to slightly shorter games 4 Some clubs may be able to reduce their costs on court hire

3 Chairperson’s report
Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all the committee members for their efforts over the last year, and it would be remiss of me not to thank them personally. Firstly thanks to Julie for all of her efforts as Secretary and keeping the Team Captain’s organised with the Team packs. Secondly, to Phil in his sixth year as Match Secretary, another very well organised season. And to Louise T for her work as Treasurer and Social Secretary, it’s not an easy job but every club needs somebody to undertake the task of Treasurer and also her work as Social Sec. Thanks also to Steve D as New Members Sec – he still gets emails and requests to attend club – some more successful than others. Thanks also go to the Team Captains, well done to you all. And finally thanks very much to all members for their efforts over the year, without you there would not be a club. Well another season has come to an end. I hope that most of you had an enjoyable, if hard, season. We have had a very up and down season – highs and lows in equal measure. I will start with the lows – unfortunately both teams who were in Premier ( Mixed 1 and Mens 1) will probably be going back down to Division 1, giving them a chance to win that division’s cup next year. But on the opposite side of the coin we have won 2 cups – Ladies have won Division 1 and will go up to Premier for the first time, and on the back of promotion last year as well. And Mens 2 have won Division 3 taking them up to Div 2 next year – well done to both teams and all of the players who have represented them. Our only other team, Mixed 2, were very unfortunate to miss out on promotion on rubbers.
And I would finally like to say a thank you to everybody in the club for all of their efforts, and here’s to next season. |
